They make delightful gifts, fun happy mail, or a creative project for kids. You can customize them to any size and use up your scraps or ephemera. Gather your tiny treasures, and save this project for holidays or anytime you need a relaxing, creative boost!
Materials:
- 1 piece of scrapbook paper (2″ x 6″) – single or double-sided.
- 1 piece of paper (4″ x 6″) – any lightweight paper or book pages will do.
- Ephemera or die cuts for your dimensional scene.
- Scoreboard or scoring tool.
- Scissors.
- Glue.
Instructions:
-
Assembly: The basic matchbook size and accordion fold assembly are demonstrated in the video tutorial. Begin by placing your larger and taller pieces on the peak of the accordion fold furthest from you. Work forward on each peak, layering your items and checking how they fit as you go. Remember, your space is the back of your matchbook cover, so don’t go beyond any edges, including the top fold.
-
Finishing: Once your design is complete, fold up the bottom flap. Glue both the front and back of the accordion fold as shown in the tutorial. This will make your items pop out slightly. Finish the design with a staple to secure everything.
-
Decorating: You can decorate the front cover or punch a round or square hole to add even more dimension to your matchbook. The creative possibilities for this project are endless. Choose a story, theme, or holiday, and use ephemera, die cuts, butterflies, animals, fish, shapes, houses, photos, paper dolls, or even word layers to bring your matchbook to life. Consider using lacy die cuts to create more shadows and depth.
-
Customize: Make some matchbooks using your favorite papers or special ephemera to create your own keepsakes. Layer as many pieces as you can, or add an extra fold to your accordion for greater dimension. You can store your matchbooks open or closed.
This dimensional paper craft is loads of fun and a great way to boost your creativity!
Happy crafting!
