DIY Invisible Paperclips

A simple way to disguise paperclips beautifully is by swapping bulky paper layers for soft fabric clusters. The fabric adds dimension and texture without thickness, especially when you eliminate extra paper backing. Even better, only the bottom layer of fabric is adhered, so you avoid glue bleed-through. The result is a decorative and tactile accent that can be added into your planner or journal for a unique touch.

To get started, gather a few basic supplies: paper scraps sized to fit your paperclip, washi tape, thin cotton fabric, paperclips, glue (fabric glue if desired), a needle and thread, and any embellishments you like. Small details like paper buttons or simple stitched accents can really elevate the finished look without adding bulk.

Begin by folding your scrap paper and sliding a paperclip over the fold. Wrap the clip with washi tape to secure it and create a smooth base. Next, measure your fabric against the folded paper and cut or tear small pieces. Layer these pieces into a loose cluster, then stitch them together with a few simple stitches or attach a button for added detail. Repeat this step so you have two matching fabric clusters.

Apply glue to both sides of the folded paper base and press a fabric cluster onto each side. Be sure to leave the bottom edge of the paper accessible so the clip can slide easily onto your page. Once everything is secure, your hidden paperclip is ready to use.

These fabric-covered clips are perfect for adding a bit of texture and charm to journal pages, envelopes, or pockets while keeping your inserts neatly in place. Enjoy some of the other fabric projects in the video tutorial to practice your slow stitching and make some home decor items or for gift giving as well.

Happy paper crafting!
