DIY Laminate with Wax Paper
I love using my Sizzix die cutting and embossing machine for unconventional craft projects. From making styrofoam printing plates to embossing with lace and fabric, I've found endless creative possibilities. One of my favorite discoveries was learning that wax paper can adhere with glue, which led me to develop my own DIY lamination technique—no laminator required! I’m captivated by the waxy texture and protective finish it adds to ephemera. This is a review of some of my experiments with wax paper, including personal treasures that I’ve preserved. This technique has become a staple in my crafting, and I’ll continue exploring new ways to use it in various practical applications. Interestingly, I found that for smaller projects, you can even skip the Sizzix; the results are just as beautiful and durable.
What You’ll Need:
- Sizzix die cutting and embossing machine (optional)
- Your images or paper
- Backing material like packaging, scrapbook paper, or folders
- Clear liquid glue (not tacky glue; I used Elmer’s clear school glue—see glue reviews in my video)
- Wax paper
- Scissors or a trimmer
This DIY technique is perfect for protecting fragile papers, news clippings, recipes, or anything else you want to preserve. It’s also great for other craft projects like preserving autumn leaves (just coat the leaves with acrylic medium first) or making sturdy bookmarks, tags, or other items that will be handled frequently.
In the future, I hope to experiment with laminating napkins, tissue paper, and exploring more layering and embossing techniques.
I hope you’ll find these applications useful for quick and easy DIY lamination using readily available items.
Happy paper crafting!
