DIY Luggage or Coin Collector Tag Set

Create a set of six cute luggage or coin collector tags for craft shows, ephemera, or for gift giving. With just a few materials, you can quickly assemble these retro-inspired tags. Choose a travel or collector theme, then embellish to your heart’s content. This easy project is perfect for using up paper scraps, too!

Materials Needed:

  • 8" x 12" scrapbook paper (single-sided) or any paper that measures 8"
  • Scoreboard
  • Glue
  • Scissors or paper trimmer
  • Embellishments
  • String
  • Standard hole punch (and/or 1" punch for coin collector tags)

Instructions:

  1. Choose Your Paper: Pick an 8" x 12" piece of scrapbook paper. Opt for a design where the fold-over tab is prominent.
  2. Score and Fold: Place the paper with the 8" side at the top of your scoreboard. Score at 1" and 4 1/2". Fold along these score lines and burnish the folds for a neat finish.
  3. Cut Your Tags: On the 12" side, cut the paper every 2" to create six tags.
  4. Assemble the Tags: Apply glue to the inside folds, securing them so the top flap folds over the bottom flap. This will form the front of your tag.
  5. Shape and Punch: Use a corner punch or cut the corners at an angle by hand for a finished look. Punch a hole at the top center using a standard hole punch and add a reinforcer for extra style.
  6. Embellish: Decorate as desired with stickers, stamps, or other embellishments. Add string for hanging.

Tag Size and Scrap Tip:

The finished tag measures 2" x 3.5". You can also make tags from scraps by using any 2" x 8" piece of paper. Score at 1" and 4 1/2" and follow the same steps. If using an 8" x 8" piece of paper, you can create four tags.

Additional Tips:

  • Keep text vertical
  • Make travel-themed tags for kids' Christmas gifts.
  • Attach a chocolate coin or peppermint candy to the tag’s center circle for a sweet touch.
  • Create a coin collector style by saving a real coin or penny using a specimen-style window.
  • Experiment with master boards for a unique design.

This tag style is quick, versatile, and fun—a perfect project to use up scraps. Keep a template handy, and enjoy crafting these tags for future projects!

Happy paper crafting!
