DIY Trash Plastic Stickers
Create colorful acetate stickers using recycled plastic, leftover paper scraps, and sticker paper for a project that’s both fun and practical. By assembling with brads, staples, or eyelets instead of foam tape, these stickers stay relatively flat while remaining durable. Try one method or mix techniques to suit your style. These embellishments are perfect for cards, tags, gift packaging, or even small-batch items to sell at craft fairs.
Start by collecting your materials: acetate sheets or recycled plastic packaging, sticker paper, brads, eyelets, and staples. You’ll also need paper scraps and any punches you have on hand. For decorating, choose from alcohol markers, alcohol ink, acrylic markers, or StazOn ink. Basic tools like glue, a stapler, an eyelet setter, and a small hole punch will help with assembly.

Cut or punch your acetate into shapes, making sure this base layer is the largest piece in your design. Decorate it freely—add borders, patterns, stamped text, or full coverage color depending on your look.
Layer smaller shapes cut from paper scraps on top of the acetate to build your design. Vary the sizes for dimension and visual interest, and add embellishments like rhinestones, pearls, or metallic accents if desired. For brads and eyelets, punch a hole through the center before assembling. If you prefer, attach elements with staples or sandwich the acetate between two stickers.
For a clean, finished back, punch two identical shapes and glue them together, then attach it to the reverse side of your acetate. This makes application easy.

Play around with different shapes such as flowers, scallops, snowflakes, or sunbursts to create a wide range of designs. Even basic circles can look polished, and decorative scissors are a great alternative if punches aren’t available. Die cutting is another option for added detail. For a super simple version, place a decorative sticker on the front and adhere a double sided one on the back. Use colored plastic too for even more variety.
These trash to treasure recycled plastic stickers can be assembled at least six ways from dimensional by using foam tape to very flat, enjoy the variety of looks you can create and enjoy bringing new life to everyday materials.
Happy paper crafting!
