Easy Envelopes
These simple envelopes come together quickly with no measuring headaches or complicated steps—just fold and glue. A small cut is optional to reduce bulk at the fold, but the design works beautifully either way. Any size or shape can be used, and the construction easily adapts to fit any card dimensions. Single-sided paper works well for both styles, whether you prefer a pointed flap or a classic policy-style envelope.

For a 5" × 7" card using a policy-flap envelope, I started with an 8.5" × 12" sheet of scrapbook paper. This allows about 1/2" for the fold and roughly 1/4" on each side so the card slips in comfortably. You may want to adjust the width slightly depending on your paper thickness. If you’d like a pointed flap, you’ll need additional height, which is easy to achieve by using wrapping paper or a larger sheet. You can also fold the flap over twice to hide the white core of the paper or simply leave extra length.
Tips:
- When cutting the diagonal “V” at the top of the inner fold, avoid cutting too deeply so it remains hidden beneath the top flap.
- Taller envelopes benefit from a slightly deeper “V” cut, making it easier to access the contents.
These envelopes can be suitable for mailing but it’s best to check with your local post office. Use address labels to cover patterned designs for clear readability, and be sure to adhere the flap securely.
Envelope making is a fun and versatile project, whether you’re organizing papers at home or work, adding decorative elements to a journal, or creating an entire envelope journal. Mix and match sizes for variety, or make a matching set like the one shown. These envelopes always look tidy and intentional—no matter your skill level—so go ahead and make a stack today.
Happy paper crafting!
