Effortless Specimen Slides

Join me as I guide you through the simple process of crafting ephemera specimen slides using exquisite floral designs as the foundation. In this project, we'll utilize text paper with a tab, offering a unique twist to the traditional approach. These visually appealing slides are perfect for celebrating the beauty of spring or enhancing your Easter-themed creations.

Materials Needed:

  • 2.5" x 5" strip of card stock, scrapbook paper, or heavier paper
  • 2 1/4" squares for the insert, crafted from card stock, scrapbook paper, or a sturdier material
  • Scraps for creating tabs
  • 1 1/2" punch
  • Scotch tape, washi tape, or a paper channel
  • Glue or glue stick for attaching digitals to the base; you may use scrapbook paper or plain card stock as an alternative

Begin the process by cutting your base strips and inserts to dimensions of 2.5" x 5" and 2 1/4" squares, respectively. Apply your digitals to the base, and then fold it in half or score and fold at 2.5". To create a circle opening, use a circle guide as demonstrated in the video tutorial or align your punch to the center of one side of the folded card and punch out a circle. Note that the back of the card will remain unpunched.

With the fold on the left, align your tape to the top and bottom of the card, fold it over, and burnish. Trim off any excess tape. This alternative method, instead of gluing like a pocket, provides more space for inserting your slide into the opening.

Apply your digital to the 2 1/4" square insert and affix a tab to one end. Both the paper channel and the tab facilitate easier insertion and removal of the slide. Get creative with decorations, such as adding a butterfly or another focal point to your insert. Leave the back blank for a discreet journaling spot.

Write a heartfelt note on the slide, and these charming creations can be tucked into an Easter basket, included in a gift, or attached to a card. In addition to the tags and embellishments showcased in the video, these easy specimen slides will add an extra touch of elegance to any paper project.

Happy paper crafting!
