Rustic Boho Marker Prints

If you’re curious about using washable markers in your paper projects but don’t love the typical bright, kid-style colors, try starting with a more muted base. Kraft paper, tea- or coffee-dyed pages, or even softly painted neutral backgrounds can instantly tone down those vivid marker hues, giving you a more rustic, earthy feel. For a cohesive monotone effect, try painting your background in a lighter or similar shade to your chosen marker colors.

Add personality by choosing stamps that match your style—whether that's boho, botanical, or nature-inspired. You’ll be surprised how much color combinations can influence the look and mood of your project.

Look for papers that already have a neutral tone, like kraft paper or kraft-colored packing tape—they make a great base.

To stamp with washable markers, you can use foam, rubber, or silicone stamps. Just color directly on the stamp, or scribble some marker on a non-porous surface like acetate. Then mist it with a bit of water, dip your stamp into the color, and press onto your paper. For a watercolor-like effect, lightly dampen your paper before stamping—it should be wet but not shiny.

You can also try "marker smooshing" to create abstract backgrounds. Scribble on acetate, spritz with water, and flip it over to smoosh the wet color onto your base. This technique works best on kraft paper.

Marker stamping is an easy, affordable, and fun way to bring color into your paper crafting. Give it a try in your next project!

Happy paper crafting!
