Wax Paper Napkin Bags
Napkins are an excellent resource for turning trash into treasure, and by combining them with wax paper, you can create durable, small gift or treat bags. These bags are perfect for storing fall leaves, ephemera, or as special wrapping for gifts. The added strength from the wax paper enhances the texture and gives the bags a delightful crinkly sound, perfect for journals or small keepsakes.
Materials:
- Wax paper
- Napkins
- Glue stick
- Scissors or trimmer
- Brayer or rolling pin
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Napkin:
- Separate the layers of your napkin, using the top ply with the full-color design. If the second ply has a faint image, you can use it to back less attractive paper if desired.
-
Adhere the Napkin to Wax Paper:
- Apply glue evenly across the wax paper.
- Place the top ply of the napkin, design side down, onto the wax paper. Use a brayer or rolling pin to press down and smooth out the napkin, ensuring good adhesion. Napkins don’t require much glue or pressure to stick well. Check the corners to make sure everything is secure.
-
Trim and Shape the Bag:
- Once adhered, trim the napkin-covered wax paper to the desired size of your bag.
-
Form the Bag:
- Fold the wax paper in from each side so the edges meet in the center, creating a seam. Use a stronger glue for this center seam.
- Fold the bottom edge of the bag up about half an inch, making small diagonal cuts on each side. Glue this bottom flap to the back side of the bag to form the base.
-
Finishing Touches:
- Fill your bag with your chosen items. To close the top, fold the flap down and secure it with a sticker or other embellishment if you're using it as a treat bag.
These simple wax paper napkin bags are a fun, eco-friendly way to recycle napkins and add a creative touch to your crafts.
Happy paper crafting!
